Before I showcase the new gradient cardstocks in my card projects, I wanted to share a few points about what is so different about these gradient sets as opposed to using regular cardstocks you may find in open stock or from other brands. These gradient cardstocks coordinate all across the Altenew brand. What that means is that ‘Summer Afternoon’ family of inks is going to coordinate beautifully with the Summer Afternoon Gradient Cardstock–as well as the enamel dots, artist markers, reinkers, watercolors, watercolor brush markers…and so on. Even if you do not own any of the Altenew Layering Dies, you may benefit from the wonderful coordination these papers offer to your favorite dye inks. I’ll show you a project where I did not use any of the layering floral dies in a second.

So in addition to the lovely color coordination with the gradient cardstocks, these papers are designed to work with the Altenew – Mini Blossom Die Cutting Machine. They fit right on the cutting platform; there is no fussing with trimming down the right size cardstock for your card making or scrapbook project. Although there is some paper weight variation (as there is naturally with colored cardstock) all these papers fit and will cut with ease in the Mini Blossom Die Cutting Machine. With that being said, let’s move on to the card making projects I made!

The first project I made featuring the new gradient cardstocks was this layering floral bouquet from the Altenew – Garden Picks 3D Die Set. The Red Cosmos family of layering inks and Altenew Artist Markers are my favorite red sets Altenew offers. Naturally, I had to make a layering flower with the gradient cardstock in addition to the smaller layering flower cluster included in the die set. I used the Altenew – Birch Wood Paper stained with Jet Black Ink Spray for a black background. I added a very simple sentiment from Altenew – Signature Words Die Set and finished this card with white splatters.

Using the same layering floral set, I used just the leaves to make this mock mistletoe. I figured I would make a clean and simple holiday card for those of you who are still looking for inspiration. I used the same Altenew – Birch Wood Paper background but this time, I used the Pure White Ink Spray to stain the wood. Then I added a little bow with some ribbon, and used Altenew – Rock Collection Enamel Dots to make the drupes of the mistletoe.

Earlier in this post, I mentioned that if you do not yet have layering dies, that you can still enjoy these coordinating cardstocks. For this card, I used the Altenew – Sea Shore Gradient Cardstock to make this basketweave background. I remember doing this basketweaving pattern as a kid and I thought these layering papers would be perfect to replicate the look. Making this small panel of basket weave took no time at all and I actually used the scrap pieces to make the last card on this post. I kept the card simple by dry embossing with Altenew – Bubble Wrap Stencil and added the Handwritten Hello as the sentiment.

With the scrap pieces of cardstock from the basketweave card, I laid the strips and adhered them parallel on some scrap typing paper. I used this as a sort of pattern paper and die cut the Mega Ampersand Die. If I thought ahead even farther, I could have put the strips on heavier cardstock and die cut the new panel for a die cut inlay. I stamped the flowers and leaves from Altenew – Perfectly Perfect and used the coordinating dies to arrange the images on top of the ampersand. I cut a sentiment strip from Altenew – Sentiment Strips stamp set for the sentiment to read “Forever & Always.” I added black splatters with Jet Black Ink Spray and embellished the card with Altenew – Cool Summer Night Enamel Dots.

  1. I always look forward to what you’ll make with the releases, Jaycee. These makes are great! I really love the ‘Smooch’ card, but the color pop with the ‘black & white’ that reminds me of Photoshop pictures is genius. Thanks for sharing your talents!
