When I first started sharing my handmade cards over on Instagram about a year ago, one of the first programs I heard about was Kathy Racoosin’s The Daily Marker 30 Day Coloring Challenge. The commitment for this challenge is to color every day, even if it is for a short span of time. This gives you an opportunity to explore creatively into your coloring mediums and take some time for yourself. Many creatives share their coloring projects on Instagram, and the beauty of that is how supportive the community is over each other’s projects. Now that I have taken on blogging, content creating, YouTub-ing part-time–I end up coloring nearly every day anyway. I’ll tell you though, making something every day after working my full-time job has become an integral part of my relaxation routine; my day does not feel complete without a little art.
Whether or not you believe in color therapy, one thing is for sure is that the primitive segments of our brains are influenced by certain wavelengths of light. I’m sure you all are aware of your circadian rhythm–the innate system that makes us sleepy when it’s dark. What I’m trying to get at here is that at in some way, we are influenced by light. So let’s let our positively radiant and creative wavelengths influence others.

Naturally, I had to make flower cards (LOL). Coloring flowers with alcohol markers is ultimately the most relaxing for me. Maybe it is because I am the most comfortable doing it. There is something so alluring about flowers. I think it is because they are universal. Flowers say so many different things–I love you, I’m sorry, Congratulations…I love the versatility. No matter what, they’re always a beautiful gift. I have a methodical approach which I have showcased on my YouTube Channel in separate videos. I hope one day that I can fully share my approach to not only coloring flowers, but how I arrange them and why.

I made three floral projects for this blog hop. Typically I grab the same color palettes, but this time I challenged myself to try different color combinations. The wonderful thing about the Altenew Artist Markers is that any of the five sets (Sets A-E) coordinate wonderfully within each other. First thing I did was stamp my images in Altenew – Permanent Black Crisp Ink. This ink is alcohol marker friendly and does not bleed. I colored all the flowers and leaves and fussy cut them with a swivel knife. Then I added white splatters with Altenew – Pure White Ink Spray for a dreamy aura to these flowers.
After taking staged photos of my coloring projects, I turned all these flowers into cards. I dry embossed a background with Altenew – Delicate Mandala Die on white cardstock and added black splatters. I arranged the flowers and accompanied them with Altenew – Sentiments Strips Stamp Set on scrap grey cardstock. I have all the materials I used on these floral cards linked below.

LOVE your CAS cards, the dry embossed background and splatter are wonderful details to add to your beautiful blooms. You have inspired me to play more with my Altenew alcohol markers, one flower at a time.

Your flowers are beautiful. I’m definitely looking you up on you tube. I have trouble doubting or how to arrange flowers on my cards so I’m eager to see your process.

Hi Jaycee, I love all your floral cards, they are beautiful. Have to agree – colouring is VERY therapeutic after a hard day’s work. I don’t colour everyday like you but thanks for taking the time to highlight these and thanks for stating that the Altenew black ink doesn’t bleed – I didn’t know that. Cheers.

It’s Altenew’s Permanent Black that is marker friendly. Jet Black Dye Ink is the non permanent version. 😄
