I seldom make watercolor cards. Why? The warping and twisting of watercolor paper is unsettling for me. There are many ways to combat watercolor paper warping, but my tried and true method is watercolor paper stretching. By stretching your watercolor paper, the surface is in a tense state, and any subsequent washes of water do not cause the paper to twist and bow while painting. My video tutorial linked below shows how to stretch the new Altenew Watercolor Paper.
I also talk about color complement and intermixing colors. While I’ve done a little bit of research on the color wheel and watercolor pigment properties, tutorials on color mixing is a series all on its own–and one that I don’t think I’m qualified to talk about. There are many creatives on YouTube and I’m glad they have shared their knowledge so that I can use what I’ve learned on my card projects.

Wow Jaycee, this is just incredible! I loved watching you watercolor. I must say, I need some lessons, especially how to properly mix colors. This is a stunning card and beautifully painted floral image! I would frame this card and display it for Spring! ; )

Both cards are so beautiful. I personally think you should be watercoloring more! I loved seeing the technique you used to create the shadows and your iris looked amazing. Maybe you should try a 300# paper so you wouldn’t have to stretch the paper since the warping is an issue for you. Just a thought!

I have a 300lb paper, but it’s so pretty and expensive I limit my usage of it. šš

Wow! So glad I watched your video. Lesson relearned from a watercolor class I took YEARS ago. Worth the wait to not have a warped project after all the time and effort. Thanks for showing us that technique. The card was truly beautiful. Really shows what a pretty stamp set can do. Crafting, staying home and being safe. š
