Paint-a-Flower: Rosa Floribunda Bundles

Botanical Watercolor Card

Floribunda Roses are known for their small proliferative spreads with the beauty of Hybrid Tea Roses. I wanted to capture the array of rose types in a cluster in my painting. I also wanted to experiment with deeper hues and darker blooms.

I stamped the Floribunda Rose cluster in Limestone Crisp Dye Ink. My canvas of choice as Arches Hot Press 140 lb watercolor paper. This ensured I captured small highlights and crisp detail between petals.

The total watercolor time for this piece was around four hours. I added some black splatter and stamped my sentiment in Obsidian Pigment Ink. I mounted my watercolor piece onto my folded notecard base to finish this clean botanical illustration style that I love.

  4. Beautiful painting Jaycee! Love the no line and the realistic detail you created. I only own cold press watercolor paper, I will have to get a hot pressed pad. Thanks for the inspiration!

  5. The florals look like they came off a rose bush. Your attention to detail is amazing. Are you sure you aren’t secretly a botanist?
