Thanks so much to Joy Baldwin for relaying you over to my blog. Don’t miss the wonderful giveaway opportunities as well–more on that down below!

Paint-a-Flower: Himalayan Poppy

Botanical Watercolor Card

I love this outline stamp set because of the large petal images. I was able to work in a lot of detail into the petals with watercolor. I modeled my watercolor after reference images online for Meconopsis betonicifolia.

The NEW Gel Pens are slightly water soluble. For the stems, I was able to get a consistent line with the brush tip. Then I could use my Artist’s Detail Watercolor Brush Size 0 to blend out and diffuse the gel pen ink.

I stamped the Himalayan Poppy cluster in Limestone Crisp Dye Ink. My canvas of choice as Arches Hot Press 140 lb watercolor paper. This ensured I captured small highlights and crisp detail between petals.

The total watercolor time for this piece was around eight hours. I added some black splatter and stamped my sentiment in Obsidian Pigment Ink. I mounted my watercolor piece onto my folded notecard base to finish this clean botanical illustration style that I love.

Monochrome Shading Pencils + Exotic Blooms Marker Coloring Book

To accompany the Paint-a-Flower: Himalayan Poppy release are a set a graphite pencils. The set ranges from 2H, HB, 4B, 6B, and 10B. This range is a PERFECT combination for beautiful white blooms with dark foliage.

To make things simple, I took one of the light grey outline images from the Exotic Blooms Marker Coloring Book. Just like any other medium, it is important to work in layers. I started with the blooms in 2H and HB. I used a blending stump to diffuse the harsh lines where needed or for shadow areas.

For the leaves, I worked from HB to 10B. I did a little graphite lifting with the Retractable Erasers for detail highlights in the leaves. To finish this card, I added diluted Jet Black Ink Spray splatters to the entire background. I also added my sentiment from Rose Tea Stamp Set.

Woodless Coloring Pencils + Craft Your Life Project Kit: Elegant Motifs

I previously shared the above card on the Craft Your Life Project Kit: Elegant Motifs post. I stamped one of the flower images in permanent black ink and then colored in the flower with the Woodless Coloring Pencils.

The pencils blend beautifully and effortlessly. The pencil packaging insert has inspiration color palettes with visually interesting combinations. These Woodless Coloring Pencils also supplement any alcohol marker or watercolor coloring project.
