Creating this card project is very simple and therapeutic. I first took a panel of Arches Cold Press 140 lb Watercolor Paper that is slightly larger than A2 (4.25″X5.5″). I made typing paper masks by stamping the large flower image and fussy cutting it out, keeping in mind to cut on the inside portion of the inked outline. I used Versamark embossing ink and the Original MISTI to ink the large flower image and clear heat embossed the outline. Once I felt like I had a complete arrangement, I began watercoloring. Nothing special to the watercolor technique–I was just doing what felt right. I used Altenew – 36 Watercolor Pan Set to paint the flowers and leaves and stuck with a peony color palette.
Once the watercolor image was complete, I added white splatters using Altenew – Pure White Ink Spray diluted with a bit of water. I adhered a strip of heat embossed vellum with Altenew – Platinum Crisp Embossing Powder and foam mounted the whole panel onto my card base. I find that foam mounting watercolor helps keep the card flat and combat the warping from water washes.

I always have to remind myself of how light a wash you can get with watercolors & to always start light. This
card is a great example of building layers. Beautiful!
