I’ve always admired botanical illustration. The job of accurately depicting plant life in great detail has always been a dream of mine. This card–not so much. I had a difficult time this day and I wanted to share how I transformed my hot mess of a card into something more presentable. Honestly, it turned out better than I anticipated, the journey there was not a pleasant one though.

  3. You card turned out really well–it is good to walk away from things sometimes as you have a different perspective when you return. Glad you persevered as your resulting card is amazing.

  4. Your card is beautiful. It was so helpful to see how you dealt with a panel that was not going the way you wanted. Walking away for a bit always provides perspective in art and in life.

  5. I love how you expressed about how you really felt about your card, initially. You made me chuckle! I’ve been there, too. But, you pulled it off and you created a really beautiful card! I love the warm colors and the loose water coloring!

  8. I so felt for you while watching your video. I so recognised your finger brush tapping and the crumbled paper towel throw down. I didn’t doubt you’d work through watercolouring and glad your happy with the card.
I’ve never tried or used markers even though I do so love the intensity of colour.
    Thank you for today.
    Cheers

  9. Thank you for sharing the swatching technique that you use. It is helpful for us newbies. I am so glad you left in your frustration, I often feel this way and it is nice to see it happens to the pros too! Your card is beautiful!

  10. Jaycee- thanks for sharing the struggle, and what you did to keep with it. The journey on display was inspiring– I tend to over think and discard a lot, so it’s good to see someone I admire feeling the same, and yet pulling it off. The end result is actually quite beautiful. Thanks so much for keeping it real! Be Well

  11. I love this fabulous card! Your coloring is truly amazing & thank you for sharing that even top designers like you have struggles with design. I won’t give up so easily when I have one I’m not happy with & will keep working on it.

  13. That was a lot of fun to watch! Yes, great save! It’s great to see how you thought through the process and let yourself be more free in the coloring. It really did turn out well! Loved the comment about going off to drink, eat and cry. And then you saved it!

  15. Oh, I am SOOOOO glad you goofed up this card—-the results are spectacular! I think it is so great that we see such talented crafters such as yourself make mistakes, too…..and find ways to fix them. I think I learn more that way! Anyway, I love this PAF and you rocked it, as always.
