Hey everyone, welcome back! I’m so excited to join Altenew for the December 2019 Build-a-Flower: Stargazer Release (ALT) and Blog Hop! Thanks so much to my good friend Therese Calvrid for relaying you over to my blog. If you get lost along the way or want to relive the amazing inspiration from the team of designers for this release, head back over to the Altenew Card Blog to find the complete blog list.
Before we get into the two cards I made for this release, let me plug the Build-a-Flower (BAF) Subscription offered by Altenew (ALT). The BAF contains the wonderful stamp set and die bundle. I think it is a phenomenal saving considering that I love floral stamp sets and when mixed with your favorite inks, you can create endlessly beautiful card projects. When signed up, you are guaranteed a spot in the monthly BAF releases and will receive a set each month – at a specially discounted price! ($35.00 → $29.99)
The BAF: Stargazer and Ink Bundle is fabulous for those of you who are new to the Altenew brand (ALT). The Crisp Dye Inks from Altenew layer beautifully on this stamp set and this bundle is at a 5% discount.
For this first card, I was inspired by “selective coloring” in photography. This is where you take an image or a photo and digitally alter it so that only one hue is showcased and the remaining colors are transformed to grayscale. I first stamped and layered the main flower image on cream colored cardstock. I used Altenew – Warm Grey Crisp Dye Ink to color all the elements of the flowers except the freckles. I cut a coordinating yellow circle to the speckles and used that as a spotlight for my arranged flowers. I stamped Altenew – Geometric Landscape as my background and added black splatters as an embellishment using Jet Black Ink Spray.
On the opposite end of the spectrum from my first card is this modern take on the Stargazers. I followed a tropical palette I found online and arranged all the floral and leaf elements into a triangle. In order to balance the triangular shape, I added a frame from Altenew – Fine Rectangle Frames Die Set. The ‘Hello’ sentiment comes from Altenew – Dot Art Stamp Set. I made a slight textured background using Altenew – Watercolor Stripes Stencil and dry embossed this pattern on to white cardstock. These splatters have shine to them since I used the Altenew Metallic 14 Watercolor Pan Set.
