Hey everyone! It’s Jaycee and I’m excited to join Altenew and be part of my FIRST Altenew Edcuator Certification Program Blog Hop! The card theme for this hop is “Floral with Geometric Elements.” Thanks so much to Irina Fonina for relaying you over to my blog. If you want to relive the amazing project ideas from the team of educators for this hop, head back over to the Altenew Card Blog or keep reading to find the complete blog list. Don’t miss the wonderful giveaway opportunities as well–more on that down below!
Altenew Educator Certification Program
I first heard about the program about two years ago shortly after joining Instagram. I saw many talented people sharing their academy projects via social media and I was curious about the program. I put it off for a few months and then made the jump to apply. Fast forward, I’ve taught my very first Altenew Academy course “Elements of Floral Composition” and joined the Altenew Video Inspiration Team with my “Perfect Pairings with Jaycee” series. It has been an incredible journey.

The card in the banner is one I made for the July 2020 Summer Fun Video Hop. I love incorporating geometric elements into my floral cards like crystal frames or fine outline frames. I like to think of the outlines as halos that help draw the recipient’s attention toward the bouquet. Below is the video from that hop.

For my card project that I made for the AECP Hop, I was inspired by Henri Matisse collages and terrazzo tile. I wanted spotlights of solid color and a lack of gradients in earth tones. I broke out one of my favorite Altenew geometric sets called Dot Art Stamp Set. I thought this stamp set perfectly anchored and balanced the flowy and jagged edges of the well loved Peony Bouquet Stamp Set.

Like I mentioned earlier, I didn’t want to introduce too much color value. I wanted the Dot Art Stamp Set to create movement without adding in shapes. Then I faked no-outline coloring by stamping the flowers in Peony Bouquet Stamp Set in Morning Frost, and then doing some rough coloring with Morning Frost Altenew Artist Markers. For the brown spotlights of color, I colored vellum with the set of browns in Altenew Artist Marker Set D and cut the vellum in irregular but ‘squoval’ shapes.

Geometric with Flowers is the perfect theme for you. You combine those two elements often and well. Your card is so creative . . . layers of unrelated elements that just work together when you do it. You are amazing.

Lovely cards. Your first card is so beautiful and I visited your Youtube video and had already given it a thumbs up last summer but I was able to enjoy it again! Your 2nd card is stunning and I love your use of the Dot Art stamp set (currently sold out after the great sale price!) The composition is wonderful- thank you for the inspiration.
