April 2022 Craft-a-Flower: African Daisy
Cherish your loved ones with the stunning Autumn Sunburst Azalea. This gorgeous layering die set features two azalea flowers and three leaves with embossed details. Add the florals to your handmade cards, layouts, and home décor projects.
Dimensional and Dynamic Layering Blooms
I modeled my African Daisies after other cultivars of Osteospermum/Dimorphotheca. More notably my more foreground flower comes from color palettes inspired by Osteospermum ‘Zion Copper Amethyst.’ The other two blooms come from a fuchsia-yellow variety that I found on Google image search.
Quick tip: I do not glue down each layer completely. I apply a strong enamel based glue to the center of the die cut and curl up the edges of the layer. This gives me more realistic cast shadows when viewing the card face-on. This also gave me a fuller bloom since the petals actually come toward you. I like to use a heavier weight cardstock (110lb) to preserve the finer cuts of cardstock to ensure safe mailing.
How To Make This Die Cut Card
- Emboss a 3.5X5″ white panel of cardstock using the Checkered Diamonds 3D Embossing Folder. Use Arctic Pigment Ink to create a gradient on this embossed panel. Foam mount to the center of a folded note card base.
- Die cut the layers of Craft-A-Flower: African Daisy from 110lb white cardstock.
- Color each floral layer using Altenew Crisp Dye Ink and a Mini Ink Blending Brush. Use inspiration photos for a variety of color palettes.
- Add petal veining with the Hawaiian Shores Pens.
- For the leaves and stem, use the Green Meadows Gradient Cardstock. Deepen areas with ink and a Mini Ink Blending Brush.
- For smaller elements like the center of the flower, use Altenew Artist Markers for finer coloring.
- Arrange and add dimension with Instant Dimension Foam Tape.
- Add splatters with Jet Black Ink Spray.
